Dr Ollie Hart,
NHS Sheffield
Client: British Airport Authority
Work Type: Interpreting
Project Type: Major Sporting Event
The Challenge:
The UEFA Cup Final was to be held in Glasgow and both finalists were teams from Spain. This resulted in many thousands of Spanish supporters travelling through Glasgow Airport in the 24 hour period surrounding the night of the match. The authorities at Glasgow Airport contacted us to supply as many Spanish interpreters as possible to act as guides and liaisons in the airport through the night at the end of the match until 5.00 am the next morning. This was a particular challenge as we already had a number of interpreters involved with another client in connection with the same major sporting event.
Our Approach:
We supplied more suppliers than the BAA staff had originally thought would be possible. The interpreters were deployed at various strategic points throughout the terminal building.
The Result:
Many thousands of Spanish supporters passed through Glasgow Airport for the Cup Final without incident. The BAA staff paid tribute to the part played by the interpreters in ensuring that the operation ran smoothly.
