Case Study

Client: Central Scotland Police

Work Type: Transcription

Project Type: Legal

The Challenge:
The police in Stirling had several audio cassettes containing interviews with an accused person who was speaking via an interpreter in the Farsi language. They required a written transcript of the interviews to be created in connection with an upcoming trial. The request was complicated by the fact that the police required someone totally unconnected to the case and who did not know the interpreter on the tapes.

Our Approach:
As many of the ethnic minority communities in Scotland are fairly close-knit, and as many of the interpreters and translators for Farsi in Scotland know each other professionally or socially, we decided to avoid any problems in this regard by appointing a translator from London who was on our network of translators to carry out the transcription.

The Result:
The translator was very experienced in dealing with legal work both as a translator and as an interpreter in the courts. She produced the required transcripts in good time and in the format the police were looking for. The case proceeded to court with the police being confident that there was no conflict of interest between the translator who worked on the transcript and the interpreter who had been involved in the police interview.
