Fiona Gibson,
Consultant Surgeon
Client: East Dunbartonshire Council
Work Type: Translation
Project Type: Public Sector
The Challenge:
Although this was a small project in terms of the number of words involved, it was a high profile project because we were asked to translate a council motto into Scottish Gaelic. This was a good example of a project where the importance of the text was in no way related to its length.
Our Approach:
Rather than only have the suggested motto translated into one version, we had it translated into several versions each with slightly different nuances of meaning. Each of these were proofread to ensure they were correct and then the client was presented with a selection of possible translations from which they then chose their final version based on the nuance of meaning that best conveyed their original intention and the aesthetics of the phrases.
The Result:
The translation is now in use on the council’s coat of arms.
