Client: Happy to Translate
Work Type: Translation
Project Type: Public Sector
The Challenge:
One of the largest projects we have undertaken in terms of the numbers of languages involved. This project required phrases to be translated into 102 different languages from every region of the world. They would be used in a comprehensive language identification chart as part of the “Happy to Translate” initiative. Around half of the languages the client wanted to have on the language identification chart were ones that we translate either frequently or from time to time for our clients. However, this still left around 40 languages that had been rarely requested by clients before and around 10 languages that we had never been asked to provide before.
Our Approach:
We approached the project in a systematic fashion dividing the project up into languages for which we had translators already in our network and languages where we would need to recruit translators. Next, we placed all translations for languages where we already had a translator in our network. While these were being worked on we contacted potential translators for the extremely rare languages that had also been requested. After taking time to assess potential translators we were able to place all languages and produce the client’s language identification chart with all 102 languages typeset on it.
The Result:
The client was delighted with the finished product and really appreciated all the effort we put in to making it work for them. They were aware of the difficulty in sourcing some of the rare languages involved and were impressed that we had been able to not only produce quality translations but also typeset them on the final artwork of the chart.
