Proofreading is an extra quality control measure that is recommended for certain types of translation project, and is required on all projects delivered to BS EN 15038 standard.
Where a translation is re-read, checked and possibly amended by a second translator, this is known as proofreading.
Every translation we carry out is carefully checked over by the translator and reviewed by our Project Managers for completeness, layout and correct font display before being released to the client. Our revisers carry out an additional thorough, independent check to ensure that the document uses the correct tone, style and terminology for your target readership and to ensure that any remaining errors are identified and corrected.
The proofreading process may be omitted at your request on any project and reduce project costs. However, we strongly advise that proofreading be carried out on any translation being typeset, printed or used on a website.
If you are unsure if proofreading is needed for your particular project, we will be happy to advise you.
The charges to proofread a translation are based on the language involved, the number of words, the technical difficulty of the subject matter and the urgency with which the project is required.
A combined project of translation followed by a process of proofreading usually costs approximately 30% more than a project involving translation alone.
Occasionally, we are asked to proofread and correct a translation that has not originally been carried out by one of our translators. We are happy to receive such requests, however, because we have no control over the quality of the original translator and cannot tell in advance if the translation requires minor or major amendments, any stand alone proofreading projects will be charged on a hourly basis.
