The Challenge:
The client had completed tenant diary sheets that needed translated into English (we had previously translated the blank forms into a number of languages). These diary sheets allow tenants to record patterns or incidents of antisocial behaviour that affect them in their homes. The difficulty with these documents from a translation point of view is that they are completed by hand in hard copy and so (a) they cannot be overtyped as electronic files and (b) the handwriting can be difficult to decipher sometimes.

Our Approach:
To prevent slowing down the project while documents are transported by post, the pages of the diaries are first scanned to produce legible image files that can be emailed. The usual way to proceed with a translation is to appoint a translator who is a native speaker of the target language. However, in this particular instance, it made more sense to use a native speaker of the source language as they tend to have much greater familiarity with reading handwriting in their native language.

The Result:
The diary sheets were translated into English and the client was very satisfied with our work. They have sent us many similar projects involving diary sheets as a result of this project.
